Capital Stud Secures €170,000 Authorized Colt at Tattersalls Ireland

Capital Stud secured the sale-topping lot at the Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale, going to €170,000 for an outstanding colt by resident stallion Authorized.

The January-born colt, out of the Kayf Tara mare Izzy du Berlais, achieved the highest price paid for a foal at the November National Hunt Sale since 2007 and became the joint second-most expensive foal ever sold at the sale.

Purchased by Capital Stud’s Darragh McCarthy, the colt boasts an exceptional pedigree from the renowned French Berlais family. He is a half-brother to four winners, headed by Six Figures, a Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed performer in France.

Capital Stud stands Authorized, and the acquisition forms part of the stud’s long-term ambition to identify and develop future stallion prospects.

“It is hard to try and buy a stallion, so we decided that we will have to try and make our own,” said McCarthy.

“He is a serious individual with an unbelievable pedigree – he comes from the famous Berlais family, and we could not leave without him.”

McCarthy was particularly impressed by the colt physically, describing him as a “beautiful walker” and “the best stallion prospect I saw all week.”

Bred by Louis Vambeck and consigned by Ballyreddin Stud, the colt topped a record-breaking renewal of the November National Hunt Sale.

It was also an excellent sale for Authorized, with another colt by the Derby-winning sire making €70,000 on the final day. Out of the Jack Hobbs mare Zinga Girl, that colt is from the family of Grade 1 winner L’Ami Serge and Grade 2-winning chaser Sizing Codelco.

The results underline the continued demand for the progeny of Authorized and mark another exciting addition to the young stock at Capital Stud.
