Topgear’s Full-Brother Sells for €2.4 Million at Arqana

The outstanding pedigree of Capital Stud resident Topgear received another major boost at the Arqana August Yearling Sale when his full-brother sold for €2.4 million to Godolphin.

The striking colt by Wootton Bassett out of Miss Lech, a winning daughter of Giant’s Causeway, lit up the Deauville sales ring when selling to Anthony Stroud on behalf of Godolphin for €2.4 million.

Consigned by Haras de l’Hotellerie as Lot 82, on behalf of his breeder Florent Coutuerier, the colt became the sale leader when entering the ring early during Sunday’s session, with Coolmore filling the role of underbidder.

The result represents a significant endorsement of the family of Topgear, who is bred on the exact same Wootton Bassett–Giant’s Causeway cross.

Speaking after the purchase, Stroud described the colt as an extremely nice individual, highlighting his movement and athleticism, while also pointing to the scarcity of the remaining progeny of the late Wootton Bassett.

The colt is a full-brother to Topgear, a seven-time winner from 6f to 7f and Wootton Bassett’s highest Timeform-rated son to retire to stud in 2026.

Topgear was unbeaten at two and developed into a high-class Group performer, with his career highlighted by an impressive victory in the Gr.2 Challenge Stakes at Newmarket.

The family also boasts considerable international depth, with Miss Lech related to Americain, winner of the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup and an established sire.

The €2.4 million sale provides another exciting update to an already outstanding pedigree as Topgear prepares for his first season at Capital Stud in 2026.
